McDonald's to reports sales increase of 2-3% in 2003.

MEXICO CITY, Dec 11, 2003 (El Universal/Corporate Mexico by Internet Securities, Inc. via COMTEX) -- Fast-food chain McDonald's Mexico will register growth in sales of between 2% and 3% during 2003, compared to the previous year, even though it has not revealed figures yet to confirm this.

Erick Fragoso, purchases director, said that although the beginning of the year was very slow for the firm, from the second quarter sales recovered well. However, profits are expected to be between 3% and 4% lower than projections.

McDonald's will close 2003 with 20 restaurants more than at the end of 2002, with a total of 300 outlets a new strategic orientation.

This year, McDonald's Corporation, with headquarters in Illinois, United States, closed 175 restaurants in different countries, while net income dropped 50% to US$893 million.

In Mexico, three restaurants were closed, while margins were much lower, said Fregoso.

The key for Mexico will be McKey, a subsidiary of Keystone, a food distribution company that has supplied products for more than 40 years in the United States. The company has two distribution centers in Mexico and supplies 95% of McDonalds' restaurants.
