Lap dancing girls get boys' vote -- shock

Has the voting public been unfairly prudish over Kandy Rain, theex-lap dancers turned girl-band dismissed from the X Factor at theweekend?

Cheryl Cole has gone to great lengths (ie, a huggy interview onthe Xtra Factor show) to explain that there was nothing personal inher comments about the girls' onstage dress sense.

Basically, Cheryl had inferred that if they wanted to be takenseriously as singers they needed to get their kit back on. Simon wastheatrically aghast, pointing out that Cheryl and Dannii, who alsohad a go, were not adverse to a bit of flesh flashing themselves. But Cheryl does have a point.

It may be rock and roll, but lap dancing or stripping is notlikely to be a vote catcher on a show where the majorityconstituency is teeny girls primarily interested in the onscreenboyish eye candy. If Kandy Rain had managed a couple of weeks inharmless gingham, they may well have been accepted in black leatherfurther along the line. But it was too much, too soon for somefemale voters. Or possibly too little, too soon.

Interestingly, male voters seem surprisingly more open-mindedabout the skimpy nature of the singers' outfits.

One internet poster even lamented that he did not believe thatthe Kandy girls had been given 'a fair crack of the whip'. Steadyon!
