NSW: Toll jumps to 16 after death of trail biker

The death of a trailbike rider on the New South Wales mid-north coast has pushed the
national road toll to 35.

A police spokesman says the 27-year-old motorcyclist was driving along Gleniffer Road
outside Bonville, near Coffs Harbour, when he lost control and hit a tree this afternoon.

The man is the fourth person to die in the last 24 hours and brings the New South Wales
road toll to 16.

A 15-year-old also died in Wagga Base Hospital in New South Wales yesterday afternoon
after being struck by a car at Leeton in the state's southwest on Christmas Day.

A young driver and an American pedestrian were killed in Sydney's west overnight.

Police say a young man also died when his car went over an embankment and hit a tree
in the Blue Mountains.

There have been seven road deaths in Queensland, five in Victoria, three in the Northern
Territory and two each in South Australia and Western Australia.

The ACT and Tasmania remain fatality free.

(Eds: National road toll figures are for the period 0001 (AEDT) December 21 to 2359
(AEDT) January 6. Some states and territories have different periods.)
