SA: Car industry says FBT tax changes would hurt industry

The Australian car industry has spoken out against proposed changes to the Fringe Benefits
Tax, even though the government has just about abandoned the controversial proposal.

In options presented earlier this week, the Ralph Review of Business Taxation suggested the
onus for paying tax on fringe benefits be shifted from employers to employees.

That could see some employees opt not to have a car as part of a salary package -- or at
least plump for a smaller vehicle.
